Keith Olkewicz, Jersey City Paraprofessional, Dies At 37: 'Blessing Of Decency' Keith Olkewicz, a Jersey City native who returned to work at the district he graduated from, recently died at the age of 37, the district announced is a statement. "The early death of Keith Olkewicz, an employee and colleague, is a shocking loss," Superintendent Dr. Norman Fernandez said.  "Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones during this immensely difficult time. Longtime Jersey City Educator, Teaching Advocate Bob Cecchini Dies Bob Cecchini, a passionate advocate for teaching and for his fellow educators, died Monday, May 29. He was 72 years old. A Jersey City native, Cecchini taught special education for 35 years, his obituary reads. His work for the teachers' union was just one area where Cecchini made his mark.  He served as union representative, grievance chairman and vice president and chief negotiator for the Jersey City Education Association, helping to negotiate teacher contracts and advocating for his co-workers, according to his obituary. ‘Heartbreaking:’ Support Surges For Family Of Girl, Baby Brother Who Died In Jersey City Fire Support is surging for the family of an 11-year-old girl and her 8-month-old baby brother who died in a Jersey City fire Thursday morning. Desire Reid tried to rescue her 8-month-old baby brother, Keyon Robinson, from an upstairs bedroom of the blaze, which broke out at 470 Martin Luther King Drive around 11:30 p.m., authorities said. The childrens’ mother and a six-year-old boy were able to evacuate before firefighters arrived.
