A New Jersey man has been infected with a rare mosquito-borne virus, state health officials confirmed Wednesday. A Sussex County man in his 60s started suffering a fever and various neurological symptoms in May and later tested positive for the Jamestown Canyon virus, marking the state’s first detection of a mosquito-borne disease this year. Mosquitoes Test Positive For Serious But Rare EEE Virus In Berkeley Heights
A mosquito pool found in Berkeley Heights has tested positive for Eastern equine encephelatis (EEE), a virus-borne disease that is especially dangerous to children under 15 and adults over 50, the township said in a statement Tuesday. The pool of infected mosquitoes was found in the area of Emerson Lane near the Warren border during testing by the Union County Bureau of Mosquito Control.
