Flaherty has been in and out of the hospital since last summer, due to medical complications from the diabetes. His health is declining quickly, Amaya Ocasio, who organized a fundraiser along with other employees from Mike's Ice Cream, said.
The fundraiser, which will go to assist Flahtery with medical bills and other financial challenges, has raised more than $24,758 as of Thursday, Feb. 22.
Ocasio said she plans to close the fundraiser soon and in the event Flahtery dies, the contributions will go toward funeral arrangements and other expenses accrued since his hospitalization.
"Mike you have always done so much for everyone," one donor said. "Our prayers are with you."
