A 39-year-old mechanic was rushed to the hospital Thursday after he was pinned beneath a bus he was working on in Jersey City, a city spokeswoman said.

The mechanic was working at a yard at 532 Johnston Ave. around 4:30 p.m. when the stationary bus apparently became unstable and rolled backwards.

Personnel from the police Emergency Services Unit and the Jersey City Fire Department propped the bus up to free the man, who was taken to Jersey City Medical Center.

Information on his condition was not immediately available Friday.
