A 28-year-old Jersey City man who was found guilty of murder after just 90 minutes of jury deliberation was sentenced Friday to life in prison for the crime, the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office said.
David Cooper shot Ahmin Colclough, 20, in the back of the neck on Sept. 19, 2016. Colclough, also of Jersey City, was killed.
Cooper was later found guilty of the murder as well as two weapons offenses, for which he was sentenced Friday to seven years apiece. Those sentences will run concurrent to the life sentence.
Cooper was also found guilty of aggravated assault and unlawful possession of a weapon in two unrelated incidents in 2016 and 2017. He was sentenced to five years each for those offenses. Those sentences will run concurrent to one another but consecutive to the life sentence for homicide.
