North Arlington PD: Arrested Driver Found Carrying Loaded Gun
An impaired out-of-state driver wasn't just carrying a bogus ID and a stolen credit card when North Arlington police arrested him, authorities said. Searching Elyjah J. Allen, 21, of Brooklyn at headquarters, officers found a gun hidden in his sneaker. Police had taken Allen into custody after stopping him for speeding on Sunday and finding him under the influence of alcohol or drugs on Sunday, Capt. Robert J. Reilly said. A 23-year-old Wanaque driver was stopped on Route 17 in Orange County after speeding past a New York State Police trooper at 145 miles an hour, authorities said. Jeremy Van Leuvan received summonses for reckless endangerment, reckless driving and doing 145mph in a 65mph zone after the trooper stopped his westbound 2009 Dodge Challenger in Wallkill around 10:15 a.m. Friday, the NYSP said. Leuvan was scheduled to answer the summonses on March 13.

A Maywood police officer chased down a speeding borough motorist driving an uninsured, uninspected car, authorities said. A Lyndhurst woman on her way to work was killed when her truck slammed into a tree early Saturday, authorities said. The 40-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the scene after her Chevy Tahoe struck the tree off the northbound lane across from an industrial park on Chubb Avenue near Route 3 around 7:15 a.m., Detective Sgt. A multi-sport athlete from Rockland was drunk when his car jumped a curb, toppled a street sign and slammed into a telephone pole in River Vale, authorities said.
