Ex-Ridgewood High School Athlete Charged With Slashing Tires On Police Car, Other Vehicles
A former Ridgewood High School wrestler and football player was charged Thursday with slashing tires on several vehicles in his neighborhood, as well as on a village police car. Peter Breiter, 20, “used a knife to deflate the tires while he was walking past the vehicles on Saturday [Jan. 11],” Police Chief Jacqueline Luthcke said. Breiter, who works as a produce clerk, was charged with criminal mischief, interference of transportation and weapons possession following an investigation that began with the discovery of the damage, the chief said. Tires Slashed On Ridgewood Police Cruiser, Eight Private Vehicles
Tires were slashed on a Ridgewood police car and eight civilian vehicles before dawn Sunday, authorities said. Residents reported tires slashed on private vehicles parked in driveways on South Pleasant Avenue, Jemco Place, Amsterdam Avenue and Spring Avenue, Police Chief Jacqueline Luthcke said. The chief asked anyone who saw any of the slashings, has surveillance video or knows who was responsible to contact Ridgewood police: (201) 652-3900. All calls will be kept confidential, she said.

Police: Ridgewood Woman Strands Utility Worker Mid-Air In Bucket
A Ridgewood woman upset with a cable company worker hopped into the cab of an Optimum truck and cut the power to a utility bucket, leaving him hanging in mid-air, police said. Elena Gerlihman, 59, then “removed utility property from the truck and walked away,” Capt. William Amoruso said. Responding officers found the worker stranded in the bucket near Gerlihman’s home at East Ridgewood and South Pleasant avenues, Amoruso said. They arrested Gerlihman on charges of harassment, false imprisonment, disorderly conduct and criminal trespassing, then released her pending a court date.
