Rick Davies, the gravelly-voiced pianist, songwriter, and co-founder who powered Supertramp’s distinctive sound, has died.
The band announced the 81-year-old's death Saturday, Sept. 6, on social media, saying it came "after battling Multiple Myeloma for over 10 years.”
“His soulful vocals and unmistakable touch on the Wurlitzer became the heartbeat of the bands’ sound,” the group wrote, adding that his music “bears testament to the fact that great songs never die.”

Edward 'Ted' Armstrong, 89, Was Best Known For His Piano Playing
Edward (Ted) Armstrong passed away peacefully on July 17. He was 89 years old.
Born in Reading, MA, he grew up in Hamden, CT, graduated from Hamden High School, and attended Colgate University, where he was a music major and the piano accompanist for the glee club.
During a joint concert with Elmira College’s glee club, he met his future wife, Connie. Ted went on to a career at IBM which lasted 30 years.

Karl L. Koss, 91, died peacefully at his home in Southport on Oct. 2.
He was predeceased by his wife, Janet. He leaves a son, W. Judson Koss with his wife Pamela, as well as a daughter, Gretchen Koss-DeFrank with her wife Polly, along with five grandchildren and two sons-in-law.
