Shortly after 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, a Maryland State Police helicopter based in Frederick was dispatched to Maryland Heights Overlook for a hiker suffering a medical emergency, according to officials. A hiker in his early 30s died after collapsing from heat stroke along the Palisades Parkway on Monday, July 1, officials said. Hiker Finds Missing East Windsor Man Dead In His Truck
A 64-year-old Connecticut man who went missing earlier this week was found dead on Wednesday, Sept. 25. Ronald Lavoie left his Hartford County home in East Windsor around 1 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 23, but did not return, his family told police. A hiker called police on Wednesday morning to report they found a man dead and slumped over in a truck. Police responded to the area around 12:30 p.m. to find Lavoie in his Chevrolet Silverado. Mountain Rescue: Rangers Carry Injured Hiker Mile To Safety In Capital Region
Forest rangers carried an injured hiker a mile to safety after the hiker suffered an ankle injury in the Catskill Mountains. The hours-long rescue operation began at around 3:45 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11 in Greene County, according to the state Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC). Crews were told that a hiker had been injured on the west side of Sugarloaf Mountain, near the town of Hunter. North Jersey's Robert Meo Was Sweet Soul Who Gravitated Toward Animals
Paterson native and Denville resident Robert "Robby" Meo died on April 10, 2022. An avid runner and hiker, Robby enjoyed spending time with his family, and shared a special bond with his grandfather, Orlando Meo and his aunt Gina, his obituary says. Missing Rockland Hikers Found, Firefighter Treated
A firefighter had to be treated for an undetermined injury after rescuers found four Rockland County hikers who’d become lost in the woods late Saturday night after crossing into New Jersey, responders said. One of the missing hikers was found near the Boy Scout camp in Alpine after they became lost in the Alpine-Rockleigh area, they said. Firefighters from Closter, Harrington Park, Old Tappan, Norwood and Northvale joined their colleagues from Orangetown in the search. The injured firefighter was taken to HUMC Pascack Valley Medical Center in Westwood.
