Sedan Slides Off Rain-Slicked Route 17
A 22-year-old driver escaped injury when his sedan ran off Route 17 and into the woods during a rainstorm, authorities said. The Bronx motorist was headed south when his Honda Civic slid off the road at the Hollywood Avenue exit in Ho-Ho-Kus shortly after 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, Police Capt. Greg McBain said. Bad weather conditions were to blame, the captain said. The driver refused further medical attention after being examined at the scene, he said. Firefighters Battle Frigid Temps To Douse Ridgefield Blaze
Ridgefield firefighters conquered frigid temperatures to quickly snuff a weekend blaze. The two-alarm electrical fire ignited in an attic vent at the single-family Shaler Boulevard home at Lancaster Road shortly before 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, responders said. "They made a great stop," a mutual aid provider said. "It could have been a lot worse, but because of their quick response they were able to knock it down quick." Girl, 13, Pulled From Maywood Pool
A 13-year-old girl was pulled from the municipal pool in Maywood on Labor Day, police said. A lifeguard quickly got to the drowning teen, witnesses said. The good news: She was alert and conscious when EMS took her to Hackensack University Medical Center, Maywood Police Detective Sgt. William Phayre said.

A senior driver from New Milford escaped serious injury when a sedan slammed into a Paramus hair salon Tuesday morning. No one in the salon was injured, either, witnesses said. Two firefighters were injured when part of a ceiling collapsed during a fire that destroyed a vacant garden apartment Thursday morning in Hasbrouck Heights, responders said. The injuries didn't appear life-threatening, they said, after the Skyline Apartments blaze at 20 Terrace Avenue was doused shortly before 10:30 a.m. May 11. Nasty Crash Near Route 17 Sends Two To Hospital
Two people were hospitalized following a crash at a busy Ho-Ho-Kus intersection. The collision at the five corners at Sheridan and Hollywood avenues near Gilbert Road around 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30 severely damaged an SUV and a wagon. Both victims were taken to The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood with injuries that weren't immediately considered life-threatening. A Pennsylvania resident was killed in a shark attack while vacationing in The Bahamas, authorities said. The 58-year-old woman was snorkeling with her family when a bull shark bit her in the waters near Green Cay just before 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, Chief Superintendent Chrislyn Skippings said during a press conference. A motorist driving on Route 208 alerted responders to a house fire in Fair Lawn, authorities said. Occupants of the Eberlin Drive home apparently weren't aware of the fire that broke out in the chimney area of the roof of their two-story, wood-frame home shortly before 10:30 p.m. Sunday, March 13.
