"A suspicious package is usually somebody's lunch," someone once said. But that doesn't mean authorities don't take all precautions to protect the public. Which is exactly what the Bergen County Sheriff's Bomb Squad did on Wednesday after a taped-up box was found at the ShopRite in Lodi. The supermarket on Main Street was cleared around 11:30 a.m. Nov. 15. Police blocked off all entrances and exits and remained poised nearby with Lodi firefighters and county sheriff's officers as the bomb techs did their thing. Two investors who bought a vacant home in Wyckoff got a surprise when they found a safe inside containing a pair of decades-old artillery shells. A private school in Ridgewood was evacuated following what police said was an unfounded threat. The unspecified threat came in via email to The Holmstead School, a non-profit extended-year middle/high school on Hope Street, on Monday, Sept. 12, Capt. Forest Lyons said. A 16-year-old boy called in several bogus threats of bombs at schools in Hackensack and Paramus last week, said authorities who took him into custody. The boy blocked his caller ID to place six calls to several area police apartments last Thursday and Friday, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said. Two improvised devices made with soda bottles and a combustible concoction brought the Bergen County Sheriff's Bomb Squad to an industrial complex just off Route 46 in Hasbrouck Heights Tuesday night, responders said. Suspicious Package Sticking From Ridgefield Park Mailbox Brings Bomb Squad
RIDGEDFIELD PARK, N.J. -- What turned out to be a harmless package sticking out of a U.S. Postal Service box near the Ridgefield Park Municipal Building late Tuesday morning brought the bomb squad.
