Brandon Johnson was scared off by witnesses as he was punching and kicking the much smaller victim on Hillcrest Avenue just before 7 o’clock last night, Police Chief Joseph Rutigliano told CLIFFVIEW PILOT this afternoon.

Responding officers summoned an ambulance, which took the unconscious victim to Hackensack University Medical Center, Rutigliano said. The boy sustained a concussion, he said.

Police didn’t find Johnson at his home, but they got through to him through his girlfriend via cellphone and advised him to surrender, the chief said. He showed up at headquarters at 6:30 a.m. today, he said.

Police charged the 6-foot-1, 250-pound Johnson with aggravated assault, the released him without bail pending a Municipal Court hearing.

No matter what caused the dispute, Rutigliano said the result was unacceptable. He called the “lack of respect for human life…incomprehensible” and said he won’t tolerate it.

” To ensure our quality of life, we will prosecute to the fullest extent of the law anyone who has assaulted another,” he said.
