Grand jurors in Hackensack returned the indictment today against Jennifer Tran, accusing her of two counts of attempted murder, as well. Prosecutors said she’d planned to kill her 10-year-old son after her daughter.
Tran is also charged in the indictment with endangering and terroristic threats.
Investigators believe Jennifer Tran had been planning this “for some time” and that “the 10-year-old was next,” Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said.
Ming Trung Tran, 50, had just returned from a week in a nursing home after suffering a stroke several months ago when police were called to the Elmwood Park family’s house. There, they said, they found Tran dead on his bed.
Members of the media — and, in turn, the public — speculated that it may have been a mercy killing.
Howeverr, Molinelli from the very start said 47-year-old Jennifer Tran’s motives weren’t pure. She had threatened harm in the past, and this time followed through by suffocating her husband with a plastic bag before turning on their eldest child, sources close to the investigation told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
The girl fought off her mother, then she and her younger brother ran to a neighbor’s house, where he used a phone to call a relative, authorities said. That person notified police, they said.
