Why did driver clip cop and lead chase from GWB to Hackensack?

Authorities are at a loss to explain why a driver who was pulled over on the lower level of the George Washington Bridge took off, hitting a Port Authority police officer in the arm and leading a seven-mile chase that ended in Hackensack.

“Everything was valid,” Port Authority of New York and New Jersey spokewoman Jen Friedberg told CLIFFVIEW PILOT. “All his paperwork was in order.”

The stop occurred at 8:40 a.m., but then “the guy peeled away, hitting an officer in the arm,“ she said.

The officer, who wasn’t seriously injured, ran to his cruiser and chased the car on Route 4 West, with other officers joining in. The driver pulled off at the Hackensack Avenue exit and stopped at the STS Tire and Auto Center.

Isaac Stein, 37, of Warwick, N.Y., is charged with two counts of aggravated assault and eluding a police officer. He also received several summonses.

The officer was checked out at Hackensack University Medical Center, Friedberg said.
