Officer Michael Fortunat was headed east on Old Hook Road, about to stop another motorist, when the westbound 2012 Cadillac CTS turned in front of him onto Tilman Street just before midnight, Westwood Police Sgt. Michael Pontillo told CLIFFVIEW PILOT this morning.

The officer swerved to try and avoid the car and the cruiser hit the rear passenger side quarter-panel, knocking off the back wheel.

Marguerite Murphy Martino, 61, of Westwood, was taken to HackensackUMC at Pascack Valley four blocks away, where blood was drawn, Pontillo said. She sustained minor injuries, he said.

Police were awaiting results of the toxicology tests, Pontillo said.

In the meantime, Martino was charged with DWI and failing to yield and released.

Fortunat was released from the hospital a little less than two hours after the crash with what Police Chief Frank Regino said were rash burns from his car’s airbag.

The Cadillac and the cruiser were towed.
