The jogger sustained, among other injuries , a broken shoulder and fibula, nine broken ribs and four pelvic fractures, along with a punctured lung.

A Westwood police dashboard camera recorded “the entire incident,” which occurred around 5:45 this morning, Chief Frank Regino told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

The officer behind the wheel was just ending his shift and heading east on Westwood Avenue, approaching the Five Corners area on Kinderkamack Road, when the southbound jogger suddenly ran across the street against the light, Regino said.

She was struck by the front of the vehicle and thrown to the ground, he said.

The jogger has her first surgery scheduled tomorrow at Hackensack University Medical Center, CLIFFVIEW PILOT has learned.

The officer, a 10-year veteran, “was extremely distraught over the possibility of her being seriously injured,” Regino said.
