The accident occurred at 700 Broadway around 2:15, when another man lowered the bucket, not knowing his 27-year-old co-worker was below, Westwood Police Capt. Frank Durante told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

“He was conscious and alert when our officers got there,” Durante said, “but he had a serious neck injury.”

The victim, who is from Pennsylvania, was transported by ambulance to HackensackUMC at Pascack Valley, on Old Hook Road, where the chopper picked him up. He was then flown to HUMC in Hackensack.

The mall, which includes a KMart and TJ Maxx, hired the private company to remove  the directions, Durante said. Its name wasn’t immediately available.
