Hillsdale Ambulance Corps. workers resuscitated the boy, with help from police, after a family member carried him to the street. An initial call came in to Westwood police headquarters at 3:11 p.m. of a boy missing from a family member’s house on Westwood Boulevard, Sgt. Mike Pontillo told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
As patrols headed to the borough’s east side, a second caller said his mother found the missing boy in the pool. He wasn’t breathing.
“[His mother] pulled him out and brought him to the front as responding units arrived and they began working on him,” Pontillo said.
The police team included Officers Sean Roche, Mark Foley, Michael Fortunat, John Hurtuk and Nico Pieratos, he said.
They did CPR until Hillsdale ambulance workers arrived “and got a pulse back,” Pontillo said.
ALS from Hackensack University Medical Center then took him to the hospital.
The boy was stabilized at Hackensack University Medical Center North before being transferred to the medical center’s South wing, the sergeant said.
Why the child was in the pool by himself is under investigation, Pontillo said.
