Washington Township police HQ evacuated, two hospitalized, for CO release

CLIFFVIEW PILOT HAS IT FIRST: Bergen County Police are establishing a command post at the Washington Township firehouse after a police sergeant and a firefighter working as a dispatcher were hospitalized following a buildup of carbon monoxide in a pooly ventilated room, CLIFFVIEW PILOT has learned.

Because power was out, “they ended up working for five hours straight with a generator going in a room that wasn’t well ventilated,” a source with direct knowledge of the situation told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

“CO levels became dangerous and wires heated up, causing a smoke condition.”

Washington Township firefighters responded, and county authorities were summoned for assistance.

Police headquarters remains closed indefinitely.

The two emergency service workers were taken to an area hospital “for precautionary measures,” a law enforcement source told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
