Video shows NJ State Police grabbing cargo thieves during perfume warehouse break-in

WATCH IT HAPPEN: Starkly sharp video shows New Jersey State Police detectives nabbing a cargo-theft crew as they tried to boost $500,000 worth of pricey perfume from a Cedar Grove warehouse. In a video obtained by CLIFFVIEW PILOT, officers burst out of hiding as a thief moves pallets of perfume with a forklift.

Detectives with the Cargo Theft and Robbery Unit were waiting in the Cedar Grove facility when the crew showed up.

They arrested five suspects and also recovered $2 million worth of stolen high-end goods being stored at a warehouse in Hackensack, said Acting Lt. Stephen Jones of the State Police. The booty include vitamins and supplements, copper tubing, wine and booze, Fubu jeans, roofing supplies and canned goods, he said.

The bandits, wearing ski masks, began trying to load pallets bearing crates of Ed Hardy perfume with forklifts after breaking into the Cedar Grove and disabling two alarm systems in less than a half a minute hours earlier, Jones said.

The thieves “stole two large trucks that they then drove to the warehouse to load up with the goods,” he said.

Watch as one thief picks up goods with a forklift, then gets chased down by NJSP detectives:

The detectives called for backup and, suddenly, the tape shows, officers chased down and collared the thieves.

Charged with burglary, theft, conspiracy, resisting arrest and eluding are:

Danilo Pena, 43, of Columbia Avenue, North Bergen;
Alonis Perez, 35, of Elizabeth;
Leonel Rodriguez, 37, Elizabeth;
Rolando Ravelo, 42, Miami Beach;
Yoandry Cue, 25, of Lehigh Acres, FL;

All are being held on $300,000 bail each, Jones said.

Police first caught a whiff after three men driving a rental truck filled with stolen copper wiring were arrested last week. That led them to the storehouse — which reportedly had seven tractor-trailer trucks loaded with stolen goods inside. After learning that the Cedar Grove warehouse was targeted next, they took their positions and turned on the video camera.
