The girls were crossing the highway at Westminster Place just before 10 o’clock when they were struck by a 2002 Ford Taurus driven by 51-year-old Anibal Coval of Clifton.

Lodi police and the Bergen County Police Department responded.

The girls were headed from the eastbound to westbound side of the highway, Bergen County Police Lt. James Mullin told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

The driver immediately stopped and no summonses were issued at the scene.

A law enforcement source told CLIFFVIEW PILOT late Monday that one of the girls suffered severe head injuries. Both were listed in critical condition at Hackensack University Medical Center.
