The Maisano Code: Jazz hands

So here we are sharing the planet, trying to follow out dreams, make money, make it count, find the love of our life and commit random acts of kindness. But then there are the obligations: Upload photos, take the latest quiz, update Twitter, tweet a lot, call Onstar for directions, order those jeans online, update roaming capability for the cell phone. Oh, and delete the spam.

Drink breakfast. Take a mood pill. Head to the office. Time for the video conference call.

Maryann Maisano

High-tech is great. But have we lost the art of communication? When’s the last time you got a love letter? When is the last time you called one of your 582 Facebook friends for help?

Better yet, when is the last time you left the tech behind and stretched out in the grass with someone you love and a bottle of wine?

Sometimes I think we’re so busy updating everyone on our status that we forget what our status really is.

Our nation is broke. Influenza is spreading like pulled pork. Drive-by shootings. The Mayan Prophecy predicted the end of the world on Dec. 21, and there’s even a web site that has a coundown: fewer than 13,000 days, as of this writing.

We got medicine that has more side effects than benefits. We’v got TMI and BRB and TTYL.

I think we should ask our credit companies to defer our payments until 2012. Go shopping, make love, take risks — find the love of your life! What the hell? We ain’t got that much time left.

As for me: All I want is face time and jazz hands.

Not too much to ask, is it?

Reviewers have raved about Maryann’s music & standup. She’s opened for Joy Behar and Ray Romano, and has played The Laugh Factory, Broadway Comedy Club and Dangerfield’s. She has a CD out and will be featured on Danny Aiello’s upcoming album, “City of Light.” Judging from the looks of the packed houses, she’ll also be staging plenty more performances with the ITALIAN CHICKS, whose show has been called “part meatball, part cannoli.” For more on Maryann, the group, where they’re performing & how to get tickets, click here: ITALIAN CHICKS.
