A grand jury in Hackensack returned an indictment yesterday charging 24-year-old Zachary Rackman with threatening to kill a former Ramapo administrator/professor, as well as “putting faculty and students in imminent fear of death” under circumstances believed to be an immediate threat.

Rackman was arrested at his Teaneck home in January by Mahwah Detective Kevin Hebert and Officer Timothy Letavish after they determined that the email was sent from his smart phone, Police Chief James Batelli told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

“It was learned that Rackman had been suspended from the school for academic reasons and had a history of other incidents at the school,” Batelli said this morning.

Rackman’s cellphone was seized and a search warrant was obtained for an analysis of it, the chief said.
