Garfield police got the call at 4:45 p.m. from the man, saying he’d found the spent shell in his apartment at 122 Charles Street, Capt. Darren Sucorowski said.
The caller told responding officer that when he came home he noticed that “a bullet traveled through his wall from the apartment on the west side of the building,” Sucorowski said.
The area was secured and a perimeter was set up.
Garfield police found the bullet hole in the wall of the second floor above the Seven Stars convenience store, the captain said.
Once the neighborhood was secured, officers from the Garfield Police Emergency Services Unit and the Bergen County Police SWAT team forced their way into the neighboring apartment at 6:54 p.m. No one was inside, Sucorowski said.
An investigation was continuing, he said.
Also responding were the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office and police from Lodi, Saddle Brook and Passaic, as well as an EMS unit from Hackensack University Medical Center.
