The officers were transporting a prisoner to the Bergen County Jail last April 10 when, they said, 23-year-old Keri Coleman made an illegal left turn off eastbound Route 46 onto Phillips Avenue, crashing her 2010 Nissan Maxima into the westbound 2012 Chevy police cruiser.
One of the officers sustained a minor head injury and the other declined treatment, Garfield Police Capt. Darren Sucorowski told CLIFFVIEW PILOT at the time. The prisoner wasn’t injured.
Coleman, meanwhile, was kept overnight with injuries that Bergen County Police Department Capt. James Mullin said weren’t life-threatening.
Mullin said one of Coleman’s passengers fled but turned up later.
At the time, Coleman was still awaiting the disposition of an April 2013 case in which she was charged with assaulting Lodi police and disorderly conduct.
In addition to the three reckless DWI assault by auto counts returned by a grand jury in Hackensack, she received summonses from local police for DWI, making an improper left turn, failing to use her signals and driving while suspended.
