Student didn’t want to carry bag that caused evacuation at Hackensack High

BULLETIN (12:45 p.m.): A bookbag that prompted the evacuation of Hackensack High School was left there by a student who told police he doesn’t like “dragging it around” the cafeteria at lunch, CLIFFVIEW PILOT has found.

The student said he regularly leaves the bag beneath the stairwell out of sight, then retrieves it when he needs it, Detective Capt. Thomas Salcedo told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

The Bergen County Bomb Squad was called in after someone spotted the bag just after 11 this morning, Salcedo said.

All students and personnel have since returned.
