"The response so far has been very positive," Cureton said. "We're continuing to accept resumes, and we encourage people to do so -- soon."
Sheriff's officers themselves are pleased.
"We could use more manpower," one said. "We provide a lot of services and assist the towns whenever they call."
Applicants must be currently employed as a sworn officer in a New Jersey Civil Service law enforcement agency for at least two years after graduating from a state PTC-certified police academy.
They must also have a New Jersey Police Training Commission certificate.
“Eligible officers from the BCSO are afforded the opportunity to be members of the Court Security Unit, Special Services Unit, Patrol Unit, K-9 Unit, Crime Scene Unit, Warrant Squad, Regional SWAT Team, Bomb Squad, Regional Crisis Negotiation Team, Training Unit, Community Outreach Unit and other specialized units,” Cureton said.
