The robber — described as white, 30-something, with reddish hair and a mustache — was wearing the same dark, hooded sweatshirt with white inner lining in the 3:45 p.m. holdup today on Main Street as in the previous incidents, law enforcement sources told CLIFFVIEW PILOT exclusively.
He also was carrying a backpack, may have escaped a cab again — and clearly has become more desperate, they said.
Two nights ago, the robber handed clerks at the Burger King and Wendy’s on Route 46 notes demanding money.
Neither took him seriously.
“They looked at him as if to say: ‘You’re not really serious, are you?’ ” a ranking law enforcement official told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
He ran out of each and hopped into the waiting cab before succeeding on the third try: A clerk at the nearby Airport Motel on Huyler Street “got scared and gave him the money,” the source said.
Today’s robber pointed a 12-inch knife at the CVS cashier before grabbing money from the register, city Police Director Michael Mordaga told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
Although he fled on foot, he vanished quickly, leading police to suspect a car was waiting — “possibly a cab,” Mordaga said.
