Detective James Donatello and Officer Stephen Knatz were working a "click it or ticket" detail near Green Street on Tuesday when they saw Steven Cuartas, 26, of Elizabeth, headed to a bus stop.

An hour or so earlier, the owner of a vehicle that was burglarized called police while chasing him, Capt. Robert Kaiser said.

The officers ordered Cuartas to stop, and he "became combative and attacked the two officers, plus a third officer, Patrolman Brian Kropp, who responded to the scene to assist," he said.

None of the officers was injured, Kaiser said.

They recovered watches, an iPhone, and "other electronics which they believe to be stolen," he said.

Cuartas -- also known as "King Life" -- was ordered held on $25,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with burglary, aggravated assault on a police officer and resisting arrest.
