Small fire quickly put down at Bergen jail, two sent to hospital

ONLY ON CVP: A small fire at the Bergen County Jail that was quickly extinguished this afternoon sent an officer and a staff member to the hospital with smoke inhalation, authorities said.

The fire broke out around noon in a co-generator room behind the jail and was extinguished by staff in less than 10 minutes, David Martinez of the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

The two were taken to Hackensack University Medical Center as a precaution, he said.

The jail was briefly placed on lockdown during the incident.
