Sky Dwyer Friend, 33, was arrested a little over a year ago after borough detectives raided his New Breed Paintball shop on Fair Lawn Avenue.

In the basement, they said, they found 83 pot plants culvitated under grow lights, with an irrigation system. They also seized nearly $4,700 cash, as well as various marijuana-growing equipment.

Friend, of Valley Cottage in Rockland County, also operated a paintball field on Macopin Road in West Milford. He was sentenced Friday in Hackensack by Superior Court Judge Patrick J. Roma.

Months before the bust, The Bergen Record published a feature about Friend, who was described as a former martial arts instructor “out to change the perception of paintballing.”

“Corporations, moms and girls celebrating their Sweet 16 all enjoy paintballing,” Friend reportedly told the newspaper.

Fair Lawn Patch ran a story a year ago after Friend was bailed out: In it, Friend said he was confident that his business would be fine no matter what happened to him.
