Several police agencies break up brawl at General Poor’s Tavern in Hackensack

Police from several departments converged on General Poor’s Tavern in Hackensack to bust up a brawl that spilled into the street and included some drunken combatants wielding bottles around 1:30 this morning.

No serious injuries were reported and no one was taken to the hospital following the rumble, which involved more than a few local men who’ve been arrested before.

“With those numbers, we called in the cavalry,” one officer told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Responding along were: Hackensack police were officers from the Bergen County and New Jersey State police department, the county sheriff’s office, Teaneck, Maywood, South Hackensack, Paramus, Leonia, and Bergenfield, and the Port Authority, as well as two crews from the Hackensack Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

Eight men in all were issued summonses to appear in court on rioting or related charges.

The were identified as Jersey Gonzales (25), Christian Gomez (22), Alex Rosario (29), Jonathan Polanco (21), Lawrence Reid (31) and Ivanova Ferdinand (29), all of Hackensack; and Aleandro Polanco (29) of Little Ferry.

Edwin Nunez, 22, of Clifton, was also charged with aggravated assault on a police officer and resisting arrest.

Hackensack Lt. Brian Corcoran told CLIFFVIEW PILOT that police hadn’t immediately determined what ignited the fight, which he said was broken up within 15 minutes.
