The bandit attached the device at a West Passaic Street bank on Sunday, Detective Sgt. James DePreta said.

The skimmers, which are often unnoticeable, collect information from the magnetic strips of cards inserted into ATMs.

Identity thieves then use that information to make purchases or payments for themselves -- or they sell the information to those who will.

The weekend thief in Rochelle Park was described as Asian, in his 20s or 30s, short with a slim build and long black hair, sunglasses and a baseball hat.

He was driving a mid-sized white SUV, DePreta said.

DePreta asked that anyone who sees or can identify him call Rochelle Park detectives: (201) 587-0642.
