Officer Doug Habermann, 36, was off duty and headed south on the highway just before 1 a.m. when, he said, the throttle apparently got stuck and the bike hit the center divider.

Habermann, whose femur was broken in the crash, was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center, emergency workers told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

The popular, well-known, 13-year police veteran is expected to be out of both jobs for three to six months, at least.

A passing vehicle accidentally struck the motorcycle, Fair Lawn police said.

Both sides of Route 208 were temporarily closed following the incident. No summonses were issued, police said.
