Driver Carolo Angulo, 22 of Wallington, smashed his 1992 Madza 323 into a parked SUV parked on Fifth Street, pushing it out of its space onto the curb, around 2 a.m. today, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said.

“Both Angulo and the front seat passenger, Adrian Aldana, were thrown forward into the windshield of the vehicle,” the prosecutor said..

Angulo, Aldana, also 22, of Garfield, and Robert Santos, 21, of Saddle Brook “all sustained injuries, including serious facial trauma,”
Saddle Brook Police Chief Robert J. Kugler said. Aldana risks losing sight in one eye, he added.

Molinelli said Aldana was in critical condition at Hackensack University Medical Center, where all three were admitted after being taken there by members of the Saddle Brook Volunteer Ambulance squad.

Angulo today was charged with driving while under the influence, reckless driving and two counts of criminal assault by auto. The counts could be upgraded if any deaths result.

Angulo is being held on $50,000 bail under police custody at the hospital, pending a March 28 appearance in Saddle Brook Municipal Court.

Molinelli praised the “fine police work” of Saddle Brook Detective Sgt. Thomas Johnson and Officer Giuseppe Califano, who are handling the investigation for the borough.
