Teaneck police found the Irvington Road victim bleeding from the head, having lost a large amount of blood, following the 1:40 a.m. attack on Saturday, Molinelli said.
She was taken Hackensack University Medical Center, where the prosecutor said she was reported in stable condition, with multiple skull fractures, after being removed from the critical list.
Her boyfriend, 51-year-old Mark Hunt (above, left), took cash and fled in her car, Molinelli said.
The hammer was recovered and the car’s information entered into a national police database, he said.
Due to the severity of the victim’s injuries, Molinelli said, his office’s Major Crimes Unit assisted Teaneck detectives with the investigation.
Just before 11 o’clock this morning, a Maywood police officer spotted the vehicle on Beech Street in town and tried pulling it over – but Hunt hit the gas and sped off, said Molinelli (above, right).
Paramus and other agencies joined the chase after it moved through Paramus, onto Route 4 West and, ultimately, onto Route 208 West, the prosecutor said.
Hunt lost control of the car at North Ewing Avenue and it slammed into a tree. He was taken into custody after a brief struggle, Molinelli said.
Hunt was being held on $500,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with attempted murder, robbery, illegal weapons possession, eluding and motor vehicle theft.
