Route 17 tour bus crash sends driver cut from car to hospital

YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: Members of the Paramus Rescue Squad used the Jaws of Life to free a man who was trapped in his Honda Civic following a collision this morning with a tour bus on northbound Route 17.

The driver was taken by Paramus EMS ambulance to Hackensack University Medical Center with what was described as a serious leg injury after the 8:30 a.m. crash between East Ridgewood and East Linwood avenues.

No serious injuries were reported among anyone on the tour bus, which police said had roughly 30 people from Brazil, China and India.

The left and center lanes of the highway were closed while emergency personnel worked the scene.

There was also heavy rubbernecking on the southbound side.

Among those responding were Paramus police, firefighters and EMS.
