Officer Jared Shatkin stopped the black BMW with North Carolina license plates for several motor-vehicle violations on the southbound highway around 11:30 last night, Detective Jim DePreta told CLIFFVIEW PILOT this morning.

Right away, Shatkin could smell marijuana, DePreta said.

Driver Wayne Hall, 34, gave the officer a different name — which Shatkin discovered after obtaining a consent to search and finding a backpack containing Hall’s expired driver’s license, the detective said.

A more extensive search turned up the four bags of pot, the Oxy — worth about $4,000 on the street — in an unmarked bottle, more than seven dozen empty ziplocking plastic bags and $850 in small denominations of cash, he said.

Police found the fifth bag of marijuana during a search at police headquarters, DePreta said.

Hall was being held on $37,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with various drug offenses, as well as giving false information to police. He also received several motor vehicle summones, DePreta said.
