Patrolmen Todd Starling and Franklin Laboy stopped the car for tailgating another vehicle on Essex Street a week ago.

“They got suspicious when they noticed the driver sweating despite the cold and rainy conditions,” Detective James DePreta told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

During the conversation, they noticed the driver, 29-year-old Andrew Pitchon, trying to conceal something in the cup holder, the detective said. So they got him out of the car and obtained his consent to search it.

Pitchon, of Saddle Brook, was arrested after the officers reported finding 149 oxycodone  tablets, 57 Vyvanse (amphetamine) capsules and eight bars of Xanax, DePreta said.

The drugs were stored in bottles not issued to Pitchon and scattered throughout the sedan, he said.

Pitchon was issued a summons to answer charges of possession of illegal prescription drugs and drug paraphernalia and released without bail.
