James M. Irby, 38, was ordered held in the Bergen County Jail pending a bail hearing on drug and weapons charges, Lt. Dean Pinto said.
A group of borough officers armed with a warrant were joined by a Bergen County Sheriff’s K-9 unit after in the Rochelle Avenue raid, following an investigation by the department’s detective bureau, Pinto said.
The search turned up a loaded .22-caliber Ruger reported stolen out of Nutley, the lieutenant said.
Borough detectives were working with their Nutley colleagues to determine how Irby got the gun, Pinto said.
They also found an unloaded double-barrelled shotgun, several ounces of marijuana and various drug packaging materials -- including a scale, grinder and baggies, along with a pipe, rolling papers, and blunt wraps, he said.
“This is yet another example of the good police work our officers do to make our town safe,” Police Chief Robert Flannelly said.
