Kesha Rountree, 32, of Paterson also paid her mother’s cellphone and her own cable bill and bought headphones, gasoline, booze, pizza and groceries with the victim’s card during a two week spree that began Aug. 26, Detective Jim DePreta told CLIFFVIEW PILOT this morning.

Their brother got suspicious after the pair — ages 90 and 94 — got a receipt for payment of a Verizon wireless account: Neither has a cellphone, the detective said.

Checking bank records, he found 49 unauthorized charges for $6,144.78 made on the card.

So he called police.

Although several charges were made in Paterson, a dozen or so were at the Garden State Plaza in Paramus, DePreta said.

One of them, through Best Buy’s online site, required an in-store pickup.

Surveillance videos at Foot Locker, Kids Foot Lockers, and Victorias’ Secret confirmed that it was Rountree.

Investigators were waiting yesterday when she went to pick up her paycheck in Hackensack.

Rountree was being held on $20,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with theft and receiving stolen property.

“Attempts are being made to recover some of the fraudulently obtained goods,” DePreta told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
