Two juveniles were also taken into custody, they said.

The victim told police he was walking to work on Briarcliff Avenue just before 10 p.m. Tuesday when he was punched in the face and knocked to the ground by a group of assailants who demanded his wallet and money.

He handed over both, but they continued to punch and kick him -- "while one tried stealing the victim's boots off his feet," Police Chief David Pegg said.

Maywood police deployed K9 Officer Christopher Nichols and his partner, Zoey, and an alert was broadcast, Pegg said.

Soon after, Rochelle Park Police Officer Ryan Burke found the suspects at a Rochelle Avenue 7-Eleven.

Zoey also tracked them directly there.

Charged with robbery, conspiracy, assault and theft were Kenneth Pinte of Paramus, Evan Goodwin of Little Ferry and Dylan Nieves of Lodi.

All were ordered held without bail in the Bergen County Jail pending a hearing.

Two juveniles were also taken into custody before being released to their parents with delinquency complaints, Pegg said.

The victim was treated for minor injuries at a local hospital, he said.
