The victim told police he’d gone to meet his daughter when he was approached just after 6 a.m. in the Essex Street parking lot of the Lakeshore Learning Store by a man who “knocked him to the ground and got behind the wheel,” Police Capt. Timothy Lloyd told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

The victim said he jumped onto the hood of the white Q3 and was knocked off as the carjacker, whom he described as a “black male, approximately 5-foot-10 and 200 pounds wearing a black hoodie,” sped off east on Essex Street, the captain said.

Police suspect a black BMW that followed was driven by an accomplice.

Lloyd asked that anyone with information that could help the investigation call Hackensack PD: (201) 646-7777

Likely charges include carjacking, aggravated assault and robbery — all first-degree because of the injury — as well as fleeing, among other counts.
