“He was in in good spirits and talking with emergency workers at the scene” before being taken to Hackensack University Medical Center, Ridgewood Police Chief John Ward told CLIFFVIEW PILOT after the 7:15 p.m. crash.

The man was crossing Oak Street as the bus turned from Franklin Avenue when he was struck and pinned under the driver’s side.

Ridgewood firefighters boosted the bus with air bags and freed him.

Oak Street between East Ridgewood and Franklin avenues remained closed while an investigation was conducted.

Along with village police, firefighters and EMS workers, the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Criminal Investigation Unit collected and members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Accident Investigation Unit responded, along with NJ Transit police.
