Ronald Sarno appeared alert as he was loaded into an ambulance before being rushed to the trauma center at Hackensack University Medical Center after he was hit by a 4-door Lexus sedan as he crossed North Walnut Street near the Stop & Shop on Franklin Avenue just before 7:30 p.m.

Police said Sarno, who sustained a head injury, died Friday morning.

As of this morning, no charges had been filed against the 48-year-old driver, said police, noting that Sarno didn’t use a crosswalk.
