Prosecutor: Hackensack Truck Driver Raped Girl, 14

HACKENSACK, N.J. -- A Hackensack truck driver was ordered held on $250,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail after authorities accused him of raping a 14-year-old girl.

Sherman Palmer, 37, was charged with aggravated sexual assault and child endangerment.

The state Division of Child Protection and Permanency tipped off acting Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal's Special Victims Unit, which investigated along with city police, the prosecutor said Friday.

Palmer, who is married, was scheduled for a first appearance this coming Wednesday morning in Central Municipal Court in Hackensack.
