Matthew Savinovich, 28, of Oakwood Lane twice sold a quarter-ounce to an undercover narc, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said. Each buy cost $100, the prosecutor said.

Detectives and Ridgefield police arrested Savinovich last Friday, amid what Molinelli said was a third attempted sale at an undisclosed location in Ridgefield. The prosecutor put the street value of the pot, if broken down into smaller bags, at $400.

Savinovich, who is single and unemployed, already had a first appearance Tuesday in Bergen County Central Municipal Court in Hackensack. Molinelli didn’t explain why that information was withheld until Thursday.

Defense attorneys often strike deals with prosecutors, promising cooperation in return for not having media alerted. It’s still a public procceding for anyone who happens to know about it.

In some cases, this is done so that news of the defendant’s arrest doesn’t spread to others whom police are trying to catch.

Savinovich also was released without bail, another indication that he might be helping detectives trace the source of the marijuana.
