DelVecchio, now the Bergen County Public Safety communications director, will set off from the Ridgewood Wild Duck Pond, across from 1200 East Ridgewood Avenue, at 8:30 a.m. Sept. 12, then head through Maywood, Hackensack, Bogota, Ridgefield Park, Leonia and, finally, Fort Lee, before crossing the George Washington Bridge, on his annual 9/11 Remembrance Run.
Then he’ll run down the Hudson River path along the West Side Highway to One World Trade Center. Arrival time is roughly 3 p.m.
“With each passing day, more and more innocent people are victims of violence in our nation,” DelVecchio said. “This trend needs to stop.
“We need to remind people of the violence others are experiencing, reflect on the 9/11 tragedy, and hope to make a difference to benefit our future.”
Through his Run for Hope Foundation, DelVecchio helped families devastated by Hurricane Sandy rebuild by completing a 106-mile run in 31 hours two years ago.
With “committed, spirited and dedicated participants,” he says, he “hopes to achieve the same success for the Run to End Violence.”
Citizens are encouraged to join DelVecchio in the run. Several participants have already signed up, including Bergen County Freeholder Steve Tanelli, and others who plan to bike or run.
All vehicles and fuel used for the event are being donated by Beyer Bros of Fairview. Secure Watch 24 will provide a command vehicle.
