Melissa Zweil-Sanchez wrote checks to herself and her husband, Ronnie Sanchez, from the Redeemer Christian Childcare Center at the Lutheran Redeemer Church before Pastor Susan-Nelson Colaneri notified police that an audit showed the money missing from the nursery account, Maywood police said this morning.

“They took advantage of the trust that the church put in them,” Detective Mark Gillies told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Both were released without bail pending a Municipal Court appearance in Maywood this afternoon.

Because of the amount, the matter has been referred to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office for grand jury action.
