Police hope sketch solves Route 4 stabbing of Korean BCC student

HAVE YOU SEEN THIS MAN? Lost amid the publicity surrounding the manhunts for a synagogue firebomber and a man who tried luring young girls into his car has been the search for a mugger who stabbed a 19-year-old Bergen Community College student at the foot of a Route 4 pedestrian walkway in Paramus earlier this month.

Paramus police are hoping that a renewed focus on a composite sketch by a New Jersey State Police artist will help solve the Jan. 12 attack – the same way a sketch in the luring case and video images in the firebombing led to arrests.

The Korean victim – who came to the United States to study described her attacker as an Hispanic man in his early 30s, about 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-10 inches tall, with a medium complexion, crew cut and mustache.

If you know him, or even if you think you do, contact Paramus police: 201-262-3400, ext. 553

Or dial 911 immediately.

DO NOT try to be a hero. Authorities will move quickly, and there may be a reward involved.

The victim, who was stabbed just below the chest, remains in stable condition at Hackensack University Medical Center, Paramus Police Captain Kenneth Ehrenberg said. Predictions are that she could be there for months.

She was mugged around 10:45 on a Thursday night on a staircase leading from the Spring Valley Road overpass to Route 4 westbound as she was returning home from shopping at a nearby department store, Ehrenberg said.

After stabbing her, the robber took cash and two electronic devices worth no more than a couple hundred dollars and ran east alongside the highway.

A passerby found her and quickly summoned police, the captain said.
